Lower Secondary
I. Orientation at international schools
The Josef Schwarz School is the internationally oriented school in northern Baden-Württemberg. Openness to the world and respectful interaction are embedded in our school concept and guide us in our daily school life. As is common internationally, students continue to learn together after primary school. While we reflect school types from the German education system, such as Gymnasium and Realschule, we predominantly work at a Gymnasium level. Nonetheless, our school adapts to the interests and needs of your child.
This applies to both the difficulty level of subjects and the opportunity to set individual focuses through various specialized profiles. The available profiles include Sports, IMP (Informatics, Mathematics, Physics), NWT (Science, Technology, and Engineering), Spanish, and Art.
II. Bilingualism
The educators at our school come from both Germany and English-speaking countries abroad. This allows us to continue the bilingual learning approach of the primary school, embedded in an intercultural context. German and English are equally valued as both learning and communication languages. Approximately half of the lessons are conducted in English and taught by native speakers.
III. Gymnasium-Level Education and Upper Secondary (College)
Classes in all subjects at the lower secondary level (Sekundarstufe I) are predominantly taught at Gymnasium level. The college (Grades 11–13) is an integral part of our school concept and also takes place in the newly opened school building in Neckarbogen.
For several years, We are convinced of the G9 system and firmly believe in its benefits, as it provides students with more time to learn and grow. This approach allows them to graduate from upper secondary school as mature young adults.
IV. Reliability & All-Day Schooling
"Classes at the Josef Schwarz School take place. Always." This is our commitment. Through advanced staffing concepts and excellent technical equipment, we ensure that our students are taught consistently, with no cancellations.
As a full-day school, we offer afternoon classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, every afternoon after regular classes, there is a wide range of clubs with both educational and recreational focus, as well as competitive programs and optional extra study sessions.
V. Focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and Business & Additional Profiles
In addition to our bilingual profile, our educational offerings emphasize the sciences and computer science. This is reflected in our curriculum, as we begin teaching robotics and coding as early as Grade 5. In our upper secondary school, economics is also available as a potential advanced course. Starting in Grade 8, students can choose from the following profile subjects: IMP (Informatics, Mathematics, Physics), NwT (Science, Technology, Engineering), Sports, Spanish, and Art.
VI. Personal Development and fun at School
We approach learning from the perspective of children and adolescents, aiming to empower them to shape their school life, and later their professional and everyday lives, successfully. Alongside imparting knowledge and skills, we place great emphasis on fostering our students' personal development. Our educators guide them step by step in learning to organize themselves, form their own opinions, and tackle everyday challenges with confidence.
