Spanish

Spanish is more than tapas, tacos and tango! Spanish is the most important language in the world after English and Mandarin Chinese. It is spoken by 450 million people worldwide: in Spain, in many Central and South American countries, in the Caribbean and increasingly also in the USA due to the many Spanish-speaking immigrants.

¿Por qué es importante aprender español? – Why learn spanish?

Learning Spanish opens up access to the entire Spanish-speaking world with its fascinating cultures. Knowledge of Spanish is not only an advantage as a tourist in popular travel destinations, but also increases professional opportunities in a globalised world. Because as an official language in over 20 countries, as a world language of trade and as a working language in numerous international organisations, Spanish also plays an important role in politics and business.

The topics covered in Spanish classes are as diverse as the Spanish-speaking world: these range from everyday situations such as shopping at the mercado to exciting traditions such as the día de los muertos to world-shaking historical events such as the Conquista de América.

Aprender español en la JSS – Learn spanish at JSS

Due to our international orientation, Spanish has a high priority at the Josef Schwarz School. Depending on the age and interest of the child, there are different offers.

Spanisch-Club from Grade 5 Every interested pupil can take part in the Spanish Club from grade 5 onwards. In a playful and fun way, we learn basic vocabulary and train everyday communication in the Spanish Club. Students from older classes can also join the Spanish Club at any time, as the topics depend on the previous knowledge and wishes of the students. Participation in the Spanish Club is the ideal preparation for the profile subject Spanish from grade 8.
Profile Subject Spanish from Grade 8 For linguistically gifted learners, the three-hour profile subject Spanish offers the opportunity to acquire a sound knowledge of Spanish from grade 8 onwards. By grade 11, the language level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference is reached. The Spanish profile subject at the Josef Schwarz School is mainly taught by native speakers. Thus, the pupils experience an authentic language bath and their intercultural-communicative competence is promoted. The Spanish lessons at the Josef Schwarz School enable the pupils to be able to act in concrete communication situations in the Spanish-speaking world. This is achieved by working with authentic material which stimulates them to deal with the content and language and thus offers real writing and speaking opportunities. In grade 9, there is a one-week excursion of the profile subject to Spain. This offers the opportunity to immerse oneself in Spanish culture, history and gastronomy and to apply what has been learned. In addition, an annual student exchange with a partner school in Spain is planned.
Spanish as a new language from Grade 11 The Josef-Schwarz-Schule offers all those who aspire to the Abitur but have not yet learned a second foreign language the opportunity to start new with Spanish in grade 11. The lessons are designed according to the same principles as in the profile subject and are thematically oriented towards the older learners. By grade 13, the language level B1 can thus be reached.

Preguntas y Respuestas - Questions and Answers

Can I choose Spanish if I did not choose French in grade 6?
In Baden-Württemberg, Spanish can only be chosen as a third foreign language, i.e. it requires French as a compulsory elective subject. Spanish can also be chosen as a late-beginning foreign language from grade 11 if another compulsory elective subject has been taken.

Can I take Spanish in the Abitur?

If Spanish is chosen as a profile subject, it can be continued until the Abitur. If Spanish is chosen as a late-beginning foreign language, no written Baccalaureate examination in Spanish is possible.

Is it difficult to learn Spanish as a third foreign language?

Due to its clear structure, Spanish can be learned relatively quickly in the initial lessons. With the help of previous knowledge of French, but also of English, the first successes are quickly achieved. Nevertheless, learning a foreign language always involves work. Having fun with languages is therefore essential for learning success.
